| Lake Anna Rescue is proud to recognize Clara Reiss for achieving the milestone of becoming a Released Attendant in Charge (AIC). This accomplishment represents countless hours of training, studying, clinical experience, ride time, and dedication to serving others.
Clara’s journey into EMS began the year she graduated, with an original goal of becoming a firefighter. She started by earning her EMT certification and quickly discovered a passion for emergency medical services during her ride-along experiences. That passion led her to pursue her Paramedic license, which she successfully completed by passing the National Registry Paramedic examination in January 2026.
While working for a private EMS company and volunteering in Fairfax, Clara began searching for another volunteer organization where she could continue to grow and serve. Through a recommendation from her friend and former classmate Ally, Clara found Lake Anna Rescue. She was drawn to our department’s smaller, rural setting and our unique water rescue capabilities.
Although Clara’s long-term goal is to become a career firefighter/paramedic, she recognizes the importance of volunteer EMS and the critical role volunteers play in communities across the country.
“With the number of volunteers going down all over the country, the less populated areas with fewer resources tend to suffer the most. I feel a strong sense of duty to dedicate a portion of my time, energy, and expertise to these communities.”
Clara shared that one of the most rewarding parts of EMS is building trust with patients and helping bring calm and organization to chaotic situations.
“I enjoy when I can enter into a chaotic scene and bring order and harmony, even in small ways.”
Her journey has not been without challenges. Navigating the responsibilities and expectations placed on her at a young age has helped her grow tremendously both personally and professionally.
“Working in this field has grown me immensely in every aspect, mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without this career.”
Clara credits the many instructors, preceptors, coworkers, and mentors who have supported her along the way, recognizing that the people around her have played a vital role in her success.
We are grateful that Clara has chosen to share her time, skills, and compassion with Lake Anna Rescue and the communities we serve. Her commitment, professionalism, and dedication are exactly what make volunteer EMS so special.
